Former Green Bay Packers Kicker Brandon McManus Shares Emotional Message After Release

Former Green Bay Packers kicker Brandon McManus delivered a strong first season with the Packers, but after a disappointing follow-up campaign, the team ultimately decided to move on from the veteran specialist.

Despite the disappointing ending to his time in Green Bay, McManus appears to be leaving on good terms. After being released on Friday, the veteran kicker shared a message on social media thanking the Packers organization, his teammates, and the fans for their support.

“From the moment I arrived, you welcomed me and my family with open arms and made us feel at home. The support, kindness, and passion you’ve shown mean more than worth can express,” McManus posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account.

McManus saw a noticeable decline in production, with his field goal percentage falling from 95.2 percent in 2024 to 80 percent in 2025. He also missed an extra point during the 2025 season, marking the first time he failed on a PAT attempt in three years.

The 34-year-old’s struggles carried into the postseason against the Chicago Bears, as he failed to make either of his field goal attempts and also missed an extra point. The Packers ultimately fell 31-27.

Signs were already pointing toward the end of McManus’ tenure in Green Bay following the 2026 NFL Draft. The Packers used a sixth-round pick on Florida kicker Trey Smack at No. 216 overall, and even though it was a late-round selection, drafting a kicker still carried significance. Less than two weeks later, Green Bay officially moved on from McManus.

Before joining Green Bay, McManus spent one season with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Across 186 NFL appearances over 12 years, the veteran kicker has converted 82 percent of his field goal attempts while connecting on 97.4 percent of his extra points.

“To be part of a franchise with such a rich history and tradition is an honor. The legacy of this organization inspires me every single day. Thank you for trusting me, believing in me, and giving me the chance to be part of something so special,” the former Packers kicker concluded.
