NBA Draft lottery set, Wizards to pick No. 1

The Washington Wizards won the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft lottery on Sunday. It is the first No. 1 pick the Wizards have had since selecting John Wall first overall in the 2010 NBA Draft.

Prior to the lottery results, the Wizards had a 14% chance of winning the first overall pick, tied with both the Indiana Pacers and Brooklyn Nets for the best odds.

The Wizards, who hold the first pick, were followed by the Utah Jazz, Memphis Grizzlies, Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Clippers, in that order, to round out the top five.

The Wizards had the worst record in the NBA this season, going 17-65 on the year. They are the first team since 2018 to win the top pick after finishing with the league’s worst record.

Washington overhauled its roster over the course of the season, which resulted in the arrivals of star players such as
Anthony Davis
and
Trae Young, both of whom were acquired in trades. The Wizards are now in a great position to add an immediate-impact player to pair with Davis and Young.

The Wizards have their pick of top collegiate stars in the draft, but the most commonly mocked players at the top include AJ Dybantsa from Brigham Young University, Cameron Boozer from Duke University and Darryn Peterson from University of Kansas.

The first round of the 2026 NBA Draft will begin on June 23 in Brooklyn.
