Narvaez strikes hot to Giro d’Italia stage 4

Jhonatan Narvaez gave UAE the perfect response to their night are Giro d’Italia start with victory on Stage 4, just two days after the team’s race was ripped apart by the horror crash that forced Adam Yates, Jay Vine and Marc Soler out of the race. On the reduced uphill sprint in Cosenza, the Ecuadorian puncheur was the strongest denying Orluis Auclair (Movistar) and delivering a needed lift for a UAE squad now reduced to five riders. Jan Christen gave UAE more momentum by moving up to second overall, and very nearly won the stage with a solo raid in the final two kilometers. Giulio Ciccone finished second and moved into the Maglia Rosa.

“I want to thank my family who supported me but this victory is also for my teammates who crashed. They’ve been working for a while to come here in a good condition. We took the victory today but we were good before stage 2 too. I think we are a lot happier now. 

Jan is a great guy, he was trying to take the Maglia Rosa. In the end, I just had to wait for the sprint.”
