Scotland fast bowler Alasdair Evans has announced his retirement from international cricket. He last represented the Scottish team during the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier against Sri Lanka in 2023. Evans has had a remarkable career, making his debut in 2009 in an ODI against Canada in Aberdeen. Throughout his career, he earned 116 caps for Scotland.
Evans ranks eighth on the all-time wicket-takers list for Scotland Men, having taken 154 wickets in all formats. His standout performance includes best bowling figures of 6 for 30 against Kenya in 2013. Evans was an integral part of the Scotland bowling lineup in three World Cups. the 2015 ICC World Cup and the 2016 and 2021 T20 World Cups.
One of his memorable achievements was playing a crucial role in Scotland’s famous victory over England at The Grange in 2018, where he took two wickets. His final appearance for Scotland came last June against Sri Lanka during the ICC World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe.

While announcing his retirement, Evans penned a heartfelt note reflecting on his joyous career. While posting his retirement news on social media, he wrote, “I remember when I made my debut in Aberdeen, I got a phone call one night from the Head coach Pete Steindl to join as cover as there’d been lots of injuries in the squad. I had never really thought growing up that I could be an international cricketer, so when that first call came, I thought it was a joke!”
Later he added, “Then the day before the game Richie Berrington rolled his ankle and that was me playing. It was the best way for me – not time to think about it, I could just go out and try to enjoy it. It was a complete whirlwind.”
Praising the Teammates:
The Scottish player also praised his former teammates, coaches, and support staff, he said, “I have been so lucky to work alongside some amazing people throughout my journey, including teammates, coaches, and staff, without whose support I would not have been able to have the most amazing fifteen years.”
Later he added, “I want to thank every single one of them for the time and energy they have dedicated, not only to Scottish cricket but also to help support me, to allow me to make the most unforgettable memories.”
