Report: People within AEW pushing to sign former WWE tag team

According to a new report from Fightful Select, people within AEW are pushing to sign former long-time WWE tag team The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods).

Sean Ross Sapp notes that almost a dozen sources the publication spoke with want Kofi and (Austin Creed) Woods to sign with AEW, with no objections, with everyone on board with the idea.

A number of big names in AEW were making an internal push for the two to end up there,” Fightful Select wrote.

It was added that both Kingston and Woods are “universally respected” and that it is highly expected the duo with sign with AEW after their 90-Day no-compete clause is up. The New Day and WWE mutually parted ways back on May 2, after, it was reported they were chose not to restructure their seven-figure five-years deals they signed last year.

During a recent appearance on the Danny Ocean Show, AEW’s Bobby Lashley publicly gave his support to see The New Day in the company, noting they would be a great addition to the Hurt Syndicate.

“Man, I tell you what, I think the problem that we have right now is that the Hurt Syndicate is too strong. If we bring those guys on there, we’d be just unstoppable. I don’t think there’s any guess game in what’s going to happen next. I think Kofi and Woods, I think they’re just amazing talent, and I think that anybody and everybody is going to throw in their money to try to pick those guys up. Hopefully they come to AEW, and if they do, we’ll try to get them if we can because I would love to be able to work with those guys. I like those guys. I’ve worked with those guys for years over at the other organization, and if they came over here and wanted to be a part of The Hurt Syndicate, it’s game on.”

Kingston and Woods have been announced for GalaxyCon in Oklahoma City, which will be held at the Oklahoma City Convention Center May 22 through May 24. Kingston is using his real first name – Kofi, while Woods is going under the name of Austin Creed, which he used prior to signing with WWE.
