Australian captain Pat Cummins admitted that Rishabh Pant has played a significant role in India’s recent Test series victories in Australia. He emphasized the importance of keeping the dynamic wicketkeeper-batsman under control during the upcoming five-Test series later this year. Pant, who is 26 years old, was crucial in India’s historic Test wins in 2018-19 and 2020-21. He made an impressive return from a serious car accident in December 2022, scoring a century in the second innings of the first Test against Bangladesh last week.
“He’s had a big impact in a couple of series, and we need to try and keep him quiet,” Cummins said on Star Sports.
Rishabh Pant is famous for his unusual batting style, which includes shots like the reverse and one-handed flicks. He has played a big part in the recent Test series against Australia.
In 12 innings, he scored 624 runs with an average of 62.40, and his highest score was 159 not out.
His unbeaten 89 in the second innings at the Gabba in 2021 was important because it gave Australia their first loss there in 32 years and helped India win the series 2-1.
“Rishabh Pant might hit a reverse shot, which is a really amazing stroke, and that’s just part of his style. I think we’re getting used to it.” The 31-year-old fast bowler also compared Pant’s aggressive style to that of his teammates Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh.
“Every team has one or two players who can really take charge of the game. We have Travis Head and Mitch Marsh, and those guys. I think with them, you know they’re going to be aggressive. If you make a small mistake, they’ll take advantage and control the game,” he added.
Australia is looking to win their first Test series against India since 2014-15.
The five-match series begins with the Perth Test on November 22.
