Trick Williams Admits WWE Gingerbread Man Storyline Got Way Bigger Than Expected

Trick Williams never expected his “Gingerbread Man” joke about Sami Zayn to turn into one of WWE’s weirdest ongoing storylines — but now it’s become full-blown chaos.

What started as a simple insult during Trick’s feud with Sami somehow evolved into an actual Gingerbread Man character appearing weekly on WWE SmackDown before eventually getting “murdered” by Sami ahead of WWE Backlash. Things got even stranger when the Gingerbread Man returned alongside Lil Yachty to attack Sami before Backlash.

Speaking on the Battle on the Battleground podcast, Trick opened up about working with Yachty and how seriously the rapper took the storyline. Trick explained that both of them spent hours brainstorming ideas together and trying to make the segments as entertaining as possible. He also admitted the Gingerbread Man diss track started as nothing more than a throwaway joke before spiraling into something much bigger.

“The gingerbread diss track, it was a throwaway line that became something much bigger than I ever anticipated being.”

Trick also jokingly apologized in case he upset actual redheads during the storyline.

“Hopefully, I didn’t lose too much of my ginger audience. I have nothing against gingers.”

The feud ended with Trick defeating Sami Zayn at Backlash to retain the WWE United States Championship. Meanwhile, the Gingerbread Man character somehow continues living on in WWE lore because he now apparently resides with Danhausen. At this point, the Gingerbread Man may somehow be turning into one of WWE’s strangest recurring comedy characters in years.
