By the numbers: The transfer portal’s impact on Big Ten men’s basketball in 2026 – Inside the Hall

The transfer portal closed April 21, but college basketball programs continue to add to their rosters this spring.

Every Big Ten program has 10 or more scholarship players, but several programs still have roster spots to fill.

Here are some of the key numbers to know about the transfer portal’s impact on the Big Ten this spring:

Transfer portal departures by school

Almost every Big Ten program had transfer portal attrition this spring, but some were hit harder than others.

According to our record-keeping of Big Ten rosters, 81 scholarship players from 2025-26 rosters entered the transfer portal during the April 7-21 window. Last year, the number was 87.

This does not include players who entered the portal without eligibility remaining.

Leading the way in portal attrition were Oregon and Penn State, with nine scholarship players from each program entering the portal. Northwestern and Rutgers each had eight.
