3 Radical NHL Predictions That Might Actually Happen

Every now and then, it’s fun to step away from what’s likely and make some predictions that feel a bit risky but still oddly possible. So here are three radical predictions for the NHL landscape. Who knows if they’ll be right? But if they are, they would light up a few fanbases around the NHL.

Prediction 1: Brady Tkachuk Gets Traded, Tim Stützle Becomes The Guy

Ottawa trades Brady Tkachuk for a massive return, and Tim Stützle slides into full-on franchise face mode. Tkachuk’s market value is huge for big-city teams with deep pockets (the New York Rangers, for example). A US team looking for grit and edge would throw draft picks and roster pieces at Ottawa.

The Sens get a haul, and some fans are a little sad. But Stützle slides into the spotlight with bigger minutes, top-line duty, and PP1 time. He becomes the team’s heartbeat. He has the skill and the heart and will run the show in Ottawa. The team’s identity goes from tough grinders to a creative, high-skill crew.

The move might sting in the short term, but if the return fuels a real rebuild (top picks, roster depth), Ottawa could come out ahead in a few years. Stützle’s highlight reel would keep the fans happy in the meantime.

Expect Brady Tkachuk to be moved by the Senators.

Prediction 2: Auston Matthews Stays Healthy, Scores 50+, and McKenna Joins the Maple Leafs

Auston Matthews stays put, signs on emotionally, and enters next season healthy and hungry. He gets back to his old scoring ways. The Maple Leafs adjust the roster and style so he gets real scoring-zone time instead of wasting energy blocking shots and slogging in the defensive zone.

They also grab Gavin McKenna to plug him in right beside Matthews and Matthew Knies. That gives the first line the two lethal wingers it needs. With better protection and a slightly looser defensive role, Matthews hits 50+ goals again, the Maple Leafs look stronger offensively, and McKenna grows into a top complementary winger rather than a raw prospect. It’s a scoring party, less wear-and-tear, and Toronto’s top-six finally clicks the way fans hoped.

Prediction 3: The Canadiens Are Actually For Real (Dynasty Real)

Montreal’s young core doesn’t just have potential. They are on their way to becoming THE team in the East for years. They can even upset Carolina in their next playoff series, survive long grinds, and ride that momentum into the Stanley Cup race.

Martin St. Louis’s coaching vibe, the locker-room chemistry, and the young talent all line up. This team is gritty, fast, and somehow clutch. They might squeak past heavy favourites and shock people by making the Stanley Cup Final as soon as this season.

Once they get a win or two, these youngsters keep coming, and the club just keeps getting better. It won’t happen overnight, but this roster looks like one that sticks together and improves every season. They could be the start of something big if the young guys keep growing.
