ATP Rome Semifinal Predictions

Jannik Sinner vs Daniil Medvedev

Head-to-head: Sinner 9-7 Medvedev

Jannik Sinner broke Novak Djokovic’s record of the longest winning streak in Masters 1000 history. Sinner defeated Andrey Rublev 6-2 6-4 to earn his 32nd successive win at the Masters level to progress to his second semifinal in Rome. Since lifting the Paris Masters title at the back end of last year, Sinner has built momentum in this tournament category in recent months, sweeping every Masters title on offer. But triumphing in Rome would carry a different weight entirely. Sinner can end a 50-year wait for an Italian men’s champion at this event and could join Djokovic in completing the career Golden Masters (winning the title at all nine Masters events).

But before Sinner can set his eyes on the prize in the Eternal City, he must navigate a semifinal match against a resurgent Daniil Medvedev. The Russian earned a comeback victory against Next Gen star Martin Landaluce. Medvedev recovered from a slow start to win 1-6 6-4 7-5. He returns to the Rome semifinals for the first time since he won this tournament three years ago.  After a shocking start to the clay-court swing, Medvedev has now won four of his past six matches.

Through this incredible streak, Sinner has dropped just two sets. And there are more milestones awaiting. He has looked untouchable, but the flicker of hope for Medvedev is that Sinner has carried an enormous competitive load in recent weeks and his physical sharpness won’t be at its peak. That said, Sinner’s intensity, return depth and serve should still help him to control this match.
Prediction: Sinner in 2
