UFC CEO Dana White reached out to Ronda Rousey hours prior to her comeback fight.
Rousey and Gina Carano went toe-to-toe inside the Intuit Dome in Inglewood this past Saturday. This was “Rowdy’s” first pro MMA fight since late 2016. Carano’s inactivity was even longer having been away from combat sports competition since 2009. It only took Rousey 17 seconds to put Carano away with an armbar.
In the buildup to her bout with Carano, Rousey had some harsh words for the UFC brass. She wasn’t fond of the promotion’s chief business officer, Hunter Campbell, in particular. Still, her rants never took aim at White.
Speaking to reporters during the MVP MMA post-fight press conference, Rousey revealed a DM White sent her before her successful return to the cage.
“He did send me a text this morning,” Rousey said. “He sent me a text and said, ‘Good luck,’ and that he hopes me and Gina kill it. I just told him how much it meant to me to hear that from him. He’s been an incredible friend to me and I’m here because of him. I am eternally grateful and I really appreciated him giving me his blessing to go out and do this event.”
Rousey has no plans of continuing her fighting career. Two days prior to fight night, “Rowdy” said she plans on having more children. MVP CEO Nakisa Bidarian had some words during the broadcast, and he said Rousey will have a role with his promotion whether she decides to fight again or not.
As for Carano, she admitted that she wishes she could’ve landed a glove on Rousey during the 17-second affair. Whether or not she will try her hand inside the cage again remains to be seen.
