As noted before, former MMA fighter and WWE wrestler Cain Velasquez was released from prison this past February after being conviction of the charges against him in March of 2025 over an attempted murder shooting incident in February of 2022 in San Jose, California that revolved around a man that he had accused of molesting his son. Prior to his legal issues, Velasquez had made several appearances for Lucha Libre AAA from 2019 to 2022 and also had made several appearances for WWE in 2019.
Dave Meltzer reported in a recent episode of the Wrestling Observer Radio that his sources stated that the reason why Velasquez has not returned to AAA under WWE’s ownership is due to WWE officials preventing it from happening.
Meltzer reported that had WWE not bought AAA, then Velasquez would already be wrestling for AAA by now. AAA officials, such as Dorian Roldan and Konnan, reportedly love Velasquez and wanted him back in the company. Those spoken to reportedly stated that if it was Dorian’s company, then they would have “definitely” brought Velasquez in for big AAA shows.
In regards to WWE, Meltzer reported that Velasquez did not leave WWE on good terms and he is someone who does not fit with WWE officials’ current goals for AAA. Meltzer reported that WWE officials goals are not like “let’s bring in a Mexican celebrity” for AAA shows.
