Jalen Duren capped off his disappointing 2026 NBA playoff run with another muted performance in Sunday’s 125-94 Game 7 home letdown against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Duren once again looked outmatched by Cleveland’s bigs as the No. 1-seeded Detroit Pistons suffered a demoralizing second-round exit, fueling frustrations with the star center.

Duren was a force in the regular season, dominating the interior as a nightly double-double threat and steady defender as Detroit paced the Eastern Conference with 60 wins and finished with the NBA’s No. 2 defense.
However, the playoffs were a different story for Duren and Co. Their lack of reliable complementary scoring options around star guard Cade Cunningham was consistently exposed, with Duren’s production falling off a cliff as he was relegated to role player status.
After averaging a career-best 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game on 65.0% shooting in the regular season, the first-time All-Star averaged just 10.2 ppg and 8.5 rpg on 51.4% shooting over 14 postseason outings.

In Sunday’s nightmarish Game 7, Duren mustered 7 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 assists on 3-for-7 shooting (42.9%). The Pistons ultimately couldn’t keep up with the Donovan Mitchell-led Cavaliers’ ball movement and offensive firepower. They fell behind by as many as 35 points as Cleveland’s starting frontcourt of Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley combined for 44 points and 19 rebounds, with the former having his way at the rim.
The timing of Duren’s playoff drop-off comes as he gets set to enter restricted free agency this offseason. Initial reports suggested the 22-year-old could be in line for up to five years and roughly $239 million. However, his underwhelming postseason numbers have since sparked discussions about his true value to the Pistons, with criticism reaching a fever pitch after their early elimination.

Despite averaging 19.5 points a night over 70 regular-season contests, Duren never topped 15 points in this year’s playoffs, finishing with under 10 points in a staggering half of his appearances.
