AEW’s Athena Eyes Bruno Sammartino’s Historic Title Reign Amid 1,250-Day Run

Athena has already built one of the longest championship reigns in modern wrestling, but the ROH Women’s World Champion isn’t thinking about slowing down anytime soon.

Instead, the AEW and Ring of Honor star now has her sights locked on a record many considered untouchable — the legendary reign of Bruno Sammartino.

As Athena pushes deeper into her fourth year as champion, she’s not just defending a title anymore.

She’s defending a legacy — and judging by her latest comments, the “Forever Champion” plans to live up to the nickname longer than most fans can keep count without a steel cage calculator.

Athena targets Bruno Sammartino’s legendary championship record

During an interview with Fightful, Athena openly discussed her long-term championship ambitions while reflecting on her current reign, which has now crossed the 1,250-day mark.

“My goal is Bruno Sammartino,” Athena said. “Seven years baby, seven years.”

The reigning ROH Women’s World Champion also made it clear she believes her run is far from finished.

“A lot of people think I might be getting ahead of myself, but at the end of the day I’ve been champion for over — what is it — 1250 days or something like that? I don’t see this ending anytime soon.”

Athena recently surpassed Sammartino’s second WWWF Championship reign of 1,237 days on April 30, 2026. Her next major milestone is the 1,316-day title run previously held by Roman Reigns.

Despite the historical comparisons, Athena mixed confidence with humor while previewing what could happen after Supercard of Honor.

“When we get through Supercard of Honor this week and I beat the epic Roman Reigns’ last championship run, I just want you to know that I’m going to be so petty,” she joked before promising a celebration involving “green apple Skittles, whiskey, tequila” and even “a cookout.”

Athena closed her comments by doubling down on the legacy she believes she’s building inside ROH.

“There’s not going to be a harder worker than me,” Athena said. “No man can touch my reign, no woman can live up to my legacy. I am the forever Ring of Honor Women’s World Champion.”

For now, Athena’s reign continues marching forward — one defense at a time and apparently seven years at a time, too.
