Alex Pereira appears to be unfazed by Josh Hokit’s shenanigans.
Hokit was sitting across from Pereira during a recent UFC Freedom 250 press conference, and he fired some verbal shots at “Poatan.” One of the more infamous lines Hokit delivered was when he told Pereira he’d “Chama on your momma.” The antics drew the ire of UFC Lightweight Champion Ilia Topuria, who tossed an object at Hokit.
During an interview with Mike Bohn of MMAJunkie, Pereira took the ordeal in stride. He even hurled his own dig at “The Incredible Hok.”
“You guys saw it there. I don’t understand English, and I think Topuria felt that he saw that, and he stepped up as a brother,” Pereira said. “Threw the bottle or whatever the case was on Hokit’s face. You saw that he was going too far. To Hokit, how am I going to even talk about that guy? Maybe he’s one of those that doesn’t even get along with his family. You see how that guy has attitude. Maybe he doesn’t get along with his brother, stuff like that.”
Pereira is scheduled to collide with Ciryl Gane for the interim UFC Heavyweight Championship in the Freedom 250 co-main event. Hokit will also be featured on the card, as he is set to go one-on-one with Derrick Lewis. Hokit secured the fight after his exciting clash with Curtis Blaydes on the UFC 327 card back in April.
If “Poatan” defeats Gane and goes on to dethrone Tom Aspinall in a title unification bout, then it could open the door for a grudge match if Hokit can continue his winning ways. While Hokit has a polarizing personality, he has been able to draw some attention and that could make for a lucrative bout if both men keep earning victories.
