Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby has been stuck in limbo since it was revealed that he had checked into a residential treatment program over a gambling addiction. College Football Fans React to Brendan Sorsby’s Injunction Against the NCAA

On Monday, CBS Sports reporter Brad Crawford revealed on X that Sorsby had filed for an injunction against the NCAA, seeking to secure his eligibility for the Red Raiders next season. Sorsby, who is represented by renowned attorneys Scott Tompsett and Jeffrey Kessler, filed the injunction in a district court in Lubbock County.

The new development in the Sorsby case elicited mixed reactions from college football fans on X:

College football analyst Blain Crain dismissed any possibility of the NCAA losing the lawsuit filed by the Red Raiders quarterback.

“No way the NCAA loses this,” Crain tweeted.

“LM_Sports_Media” jokingly referred to the influential quarterback’s gambling problem vis-a-vis his injunction against the NCAA in a tweet.

“Brendan Sorsby is really betting on himself here, which is exactly what got him into this situation in the first place,” Lance tweeted.

The “Three Tech Pod” was not optimistic about Sorsby securing his eligibility and instead hyped up Texas Tech quarterback Will Hammond.

“Hey Brendan Sorsby, it’s HammondSZN #GunsUp,” Three Tech Pod tweeted.

Despite the NCAA initially allowing student-athletes to bet on professional sports last year, schools overturned the initiative, and the prohibition from gambling on NCAA-sanctioned sports was upheld.

According to reports, Sorsby started gambling during his two-year Indiana career, including placing bets on Hoosiers games, further placing his college football career in jeopardy. Sorsby’s filing claims that the NCAA rejected an offer for the quarterback to serve a two-game suspension next season after completing his residential treatment.

In his affidavit included in the injunction, Sorsby argued about the current inertia of the case and possible effects on his college football career.

“If I cannot practice with the team, it will be severely detrimental to my mental health and my development as an athlete,” Sorsby said in the affidavit.

“Without access to coaching, teammates, and on-field repetitions, I cannot develop the chemistry and skills necessary to start at quarterback in the 2026 season – and each additional day away compounds that harm. These developmental opportunities cannot be replaced or replicated.”

Sorsby was one of the top quarterbacks in the country last season, earning a PFSN College QB Impact score of 88.2 after registering 2,800 passing yards on 61.6% completion, resulting in 27 touchdowns and five interceptions, while adding 580 rushing yards and nine touchdowns for Cincinnati.
