Bucs assistant general manager Mike Greenberg is participating in the NFL’s Accelerator Program. The program was founded in 2022 and took a one year pause last year, but is back for the 2026 season.
The originally intended purpose of the accelerator program is to have candidates get together for leadership development and networking opportunities with as many teams as possible represented. The goal is to continue building a diverse hiring pipeline for future head coach and general manager positions throughout the NFL. With a restored structure this year, the focus is on people with more readiness for the head coach and general manager roles. This event takes place in Orlando, Florida on Monday and Tuesday.

Notable names attending this year along side Bucs assistant general manager Mike Greenberg include Chargers offensive coordinator and former head coach Mike McDaniel, Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich and Jaguars offensive coordinator Grant Udinksi. Nobody was there representing the Panthers or Saints, the other two rivals of the Bucs in the NFC South division.
Former Bucs quarterbacks coach Thad Lewis attended the event for Tampa Bay in 2024 and 2023. Senior Director of Research Jacqueline Davidson and former offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich have also attended the program. This year Mike Greenberg attends for the first time. Greenberg has had interviews for general manager positions before, but has remained in Tampa Bay.
History Of Bucs Assistant GM Mike Greenberg
Tampa Bay has been incredibly fortunate to have Greenberg around since 2010 when he was hired by former general manager Mark Dominik as a personnel assistant. He has been an invaluable member of Tampa Bay’s front office throughout his time with the team.
Much more than the salary capologist that he is often depicted being, Greenberg is the trusted strategist of the Bucs’ brass, and actually runs the entire budget for the football side of the organization – not just the salary cap. Greenberg sets the budget and oversees the purchases for the team’s travel, equipment, video, scouting, and groundskeeping. Greenberg has been a creative innovator in terms of contract structure and has been a contract trendsetter around the league. Other teams have copied his structuring style, which has evolved throughout the years.

More importantly than his financial wizardry, Greenberg is also general manager Jason Licht’s right-hand man. Licht has a unique relationship with him after the two have worked together for a decade, and both of them collaborate on plenty of important personnel decisions.
Greenberg’s role with the front office is not limited to free agency, either. He is also the trade strategist for the Bucs on draft weekend. Greenberg has assisted Licht with compensation strategy during the times the general manager has moved up and down in certain rounds over the years. The Bucs’ front office excellence should continue in 2026 with the team of Licht and Greenberg leading the way for the Bucs.

Greenberg has been positioning himself for a general manager job when the right opportunity came, and he’s taken two interviews – with one in 2023 and another in 2024. Greenberg interviewed with the Panthers during the 2023 offseason before they decided to go with Dan Morgan and pair him with Bucs offensive coordinator Dave Canales. He also took an interview in January of 2024 for the Jets general manager position, which he wanted due to growing up in New York as a Jets fan. Instead, the team hired Darren Mougey to be the G.M.
During last offseason in February of 2025, Greenberg was invited by the Jacksonville Jaguars to interview for their general manager vacancy. Ultimately, he decided to turn it down and stay with Tampa Bay. If the Bucs were to bounce back and be successful again in this 2026 season, it’s only a matter of time before teams may end up calling him again.
