Todd Wells won a total of 12 U.S. Mountain Bike National Championships in cross-country, short-track and marathon racing.

In cyclo-cross, Wells captured the 2001, 2005 and 2010 USA Cycling Cyclocross National Championships.

Todd  made the U.S. Olympic mountain bike team in 2004, 2008, and 2012.

Todd also won the Leadville 100 race three times, taking his third win in 2016.

Here’s a video of Todd talking about Durango being chosen for the site of the 2030 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships, 40 years after that city hosted the first UCI World Championship in 1990.

In mountain bike racing, Todd was also a three-time Pan Am Champion as well as a winner of La Ruta de los Conquistadores

Todd is now a professional mortgage broker in Colorado, but he also works as a coach with USA Cycling, going on the road and overseas, coaching the U.S. riders.

Todd turned 50 on December 25th of 2025.

Todd’s son, Cooper, is an avid cyclocross racer and road racer. In talking with Todd this week, we found out that Cooper is a Time Trial, Road, and Criterium National Champion.

OnTodd’s social media pages, we found a video of “Coop” riding his cyclocross bike, doing some stylish jumps on it, and looking like he might turn out to be a national mountain bike champion in the future, too.

Both Todd and Cooper are planning on racing in the Iron Horse Classic this coming weekend.
