At the heart of the URBAN is a first-of-its-kind-in-the-UK Bafang 3-speed automatic motor working in harmony with VOLT’s SpinTech Drive system and a highly responsive torque sensor. Together, these systems deliver an ‘automatic-like’ cycling experience that intuitively adjusts to the rider – eliminating manual gear changes entirely for smooth, uninterrupted movement through the city. Further underlining its credentials, the Bafang H730 Automatic Gear Hub Motor recently won at the German Design Awards for ‘Excellent Product Design.’
Built for agility and control in dense urban environments, the URBAN weighs just 17kg (without battery) and 19.5kg including its removable Panasonic 36V lithium-ion battery, striking a balance between lightweight performance and everyday practicality. Riders can expect a range of up to 55 miles, supported by a suspension seat post that helps absorb the imperfections of urban roads for improved comfort.
Visually, the URBAN continues VOLT’s design-led approach, drawing inspiration from its Red Dot award-winning portfolio, including the VOLT LONDON, which received multiple design accolades following its launch in 2022. The URBAN is available in two frame styles: a step-through for easy access and a cross-bar frame akin to a traditional road bike.
The URBAN was officially launched last night at VOLT’s showroom, which also marked the launch of the brand’s new podcast, On Your Bike. The series – developed in partnership with 90s fitness icon Mr Motivator – explores movement, mindset, and mental wellbeing through accessible, everyday physical activity.
