NFL’s apology to Jaxon Smith-Njigba for ‘disrespectful’ mishap falls short

The NFL should hire new editors after failing to catch a typo on the 2025 Offensive Player of the Year trophy for Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

Smith-Njigba received his trophy on Tuesday but noticed it appeared to say “Defensive Player of the Year” instead of “Offensive Player of the Year.” Infuriated, the WR posted the typo to his Instagram story.

“It’s just getting disrespectful, guys,” the WR said.

Smith-Njigba must have been even more outraged when he discovered the trophy didn’t say “Defensive.” The league misspelled “Offensive” as “Oefensive.” The trophy also didn’t have a space between “the Year.” Again, how did the NFL not catch these mistakes?
