Newcastle United are now plotting a move to sign Bazoumana Toure as part of their attacking rebuild this summer.
It’s no real surprise that the Magpies are chasing an attacking addition. Their frontline has been all out of sorts since the departure of Alexander Isak last summer. The arrivals of Nick Woltemade, Anthony Elanga and Yoane Wissa were meant to act as a fix in that department, but that simply hasn’t been the case.
Now, to compile Eddie Howe’s problems, it looks increasingly likely that Anthony Gordon will be heading for the exit door in the coming months, amid interest from Bayern Munich. A replacement for a top attacking star will be on the agenda for the second summer running as a result.
He’s like Wijnaldum: Newcastle now “likely” to sign £65m star after talks
Newcastle are set to undergo a period of transformation this summer.
According to Sky Germany’s Patrick Berger, Hoffenheim have been alerted that Newcastle want to sign Toure from Hoffenheim and could turn the winger into the Bundesliga club’s record sale this summer.
As per Berger, the Magpies have launched an enquiry about the availability of the talented winger, who is priced at around €50m (£43m). That would beat Hoffenheim’s current record sale, which was ironically Joelinton to Newcastle in a deal worth €43.5m (£38m) back in 2019.
Some will be quick to suggest that £43m is a hefty fee for a player who’s never featured in the Premier League, but Toure’s numbers do the talking for him. The 20-year-old is far and away Hoffenheim’s best player, with five goals and another 12 assists in all competitions this season.
Replacing Gordon will be no easy task, but Newcastle could quickly discover exactly why the young star is a man in-demand all around European football.
“Excellent” Toure could replace Gordon
Even Howe can’t escape the reality of Newcastle’s summer. Without European football, they’re facing the prospect of losing several stars with Gordon at the very top of that list. Losing the winger will be a major blow. He has taken the role of talisman ever since the departure of Isak, but that doesn’t mean he’s irreplaceable.
Toure represents a young prospect who’s ready to transform Newcastle’s frontline, providing an eventual upgrade on Gordon if he reaches his high potential.

There’s a reason why Ben Mattinson has been so full of praise for Toure, with the Como scout dubbing him “excellent”. Statistically speaking, he has outperformed Gordon this season at a time when Bayern Munich are calling the Newcastle star’s name.
It will feel like a blow if the winger departs, but that will quickly become forgotten if a player of Toure’s ability arrives. After becoming Hoffenheim’s best player, the 20-year-old is ready to take the Premier League by storm.
