- Porsche 935 (2018) is the first car announced for Assetto Corsa EVO’s V0.7 build
- The car is based on a Porsche 911 GT2 RS, and features revised aerodynamics
An homage to the classic 24 Hours of Le Mans Porsche 935/78 is set for Assetto Corsa EVO’s V0.7 Early Access build.
Mechanically, the track-focused 2018 Porsche 935 is a Porsche 911 GT2 RS, but features elongated bodywork and revised aerodynamics to mimic the long-tail racecar famously raced at the 1978 edition of Le Mans.
So-called ‘Moby Dick’, due to its extended tail, the 935/78 ran to FIA Group 5 silhouette rules, with its trick aero making it the quickest car down the Mulsanne Straight. Unfortunately, it wouldn’t find Le Mans success (and in fact finished behind a trio of older 935/77s), but its stark appearance and controversial adoption of water-cooling technology make it a memorable machine nonetheless.
For 2018, Porsche decided to bring the 935 up to modern standards for the Rennsport Reunion festival at Laguna Seca. The new car boasts 700 bhp (down from the original’s 900 bhp+) and features an extended carbon-fibre composite body, measuring 4.87m long.
