While speaking with reporters earlier in the week, Buffalo Bills wide receiver Keon Coleman acknowledged that he will be entering a “make-or-break” season regarding his tenure with the Bills this coming September.
First-year Bills head coach Joe Brady later suggested he will give Coleman plenty of chances to prove his worth to the club over the next eight months.
Joe Brady wants Keon Coleman “to be a part of our offense” for now
“I made sure once I got the job to let him know, he’s going to be here, he’s going to be a part of our offense,” Brady recently said about Coleman, per Maddy Glab of the Bills’ website. “I’m excited about him progressing in this offense and getting with [quarterback Josh Allen] and doing those things…I love the work ethic, love how he’s kind of been doing it right now.”
Coleman’s future became a hot topic after Bills owner Terry Pegula famously
said in January that former head coach Sean McDermott was responsible for the club selecting the 23-year-old with the 33rd overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft. Reported “maturity issues” caused the Bills to punish and sit Coleman on multiple occasions over the first two seasons of his pro career, and Buffalo then selected UConn wide receiver Skyler Bell in the fourth round of this year’s draft.
That said, Brady revealed shortly after he was promoted from his role of Buffalo offensive coordinator that he was confident serving as Coleman’s head coach would be “the best thing” for the third-year pro’s career. This week, Brady challenged Coleman to embrace a fresh start ahead of the 2026 campaign.
Joe Brady wants Keon Coleman to avoid putting extra pressure on himself
“All he can control is what he’s doing moving forward and not putting any more pressure on himself,” Brady added about Coleman. “Just go out there, run the routes, do your job, block in the run game, make the touchdown blocks, do the things that he’s capable of doing. And just upholding that standard every single day, and I believe he’ll be able to do that.”
Brady and Bills general manager/president of football operations Brandon Beane have made it clear they plan to hold onto Coleman through at least the summer. What happens beyond that will depend on how Coleman plays and acts behind the scenes.
