The Utah Royals’ success is no fluke, Denver finds goals from several sources, a full house is the name of the game in many NWSL markets, and concern for Gotham FC goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger.
A royal start for Utah
Will last year’s bottom feeders become this year’s apex predators? The Royals’ 2-1 win over Racing Louisville sees Utah in third place with a game in hand behind leaders Portland and San Diego. Through 10 games, the Royals have already matched their win total from the entirety of last season (6). They are the only NWSL team this season that has scored in 90 percent of their games. Only Gotham FC has conceded fewer goals so far (5 to Utah’s 7). Utah rode an impressive 536-minute shutout streak until Kayla Fischer’s second-half goal last weekend. The Royals stumbled out of the gate this season, losing their first two matches. They have not lost since.
Denver is a lean, green, goal-scoring machine
