Bar ends are back! Sort of…

Joe Breeden has spent a few seasons developing his modern version of the ’90s classic component: the bar end. The placement is the same, but that’s about all. Instead of big old bull-horns, Breeden’s developed a new, minimalist bar end. The Nukeproof AXESS racing downhill pro has put a few years of development into this part, and even offered it for sale on his own. Now, by teaming up with Wolf Tooth, its more widely available, cleaner looking, and much more affordable.

Locked-In Bar Ends: What’s the deal?

While Breeden’s new Locked-In Bar Ends sit in the same location as the OGs, the purpose is a little different. There is some, minimal element of protecting your pinky from grazing trees. But the main feature is more functional. Here’s Wolf Tooth’s description of the new part:

“A firm, ergonomic outboard flange supports your hand allowing for a lighter grip on the bars and reduced arm pump, letting you push your limits harder for longer.”

Basicaly, it keeps you from sliding your hands off the end of the bars. Just enough that you can loosen your grip. not enough that you can totally let go, or will never get your hands off the bars when you need to. Just a little extra nudge to help keep your hands where you need them.

Not just for DH

While Breeden created the Locked-In concept for his own World Cup downhill racing, Wolf Tooth has bigger ideas. Beyond just gravity riding, the Minnesota brand thinks the concept applies perfectly to eMTB riding. Heavier bikes that make it easier to ride a bit more aggressively, seems to fit the bill. And, according to Wolf Tooth, the bar-ends can function as an “additional point of leverage” to improve handling of the hefty eebs.

Anyway, Locked-In Bar Ends are $55 in Canada. The first batch is, apparently, already sold out. The next one is expected to ship around May 28th.
