‘I am buzzing!’ This Dan Burn reaction to making the England World Cup squad is class

Dan Burn was one of three Newcastle United players named by Thomas Tuchel in his England World Cup squad.

The Friday morning reveal also seeing Anthony Gordon and Tino Livramento included, though no Lewis Hall.

In less than three weeks time the tournament kicks off on Thursday 11 June and then lasts almost six weeks before ending with the World Cup final on Sunday 19 July.

The England World Cup squad will fly to the United States in 10 days time (1 June 2026).

They play friendlies against New Zealand on 6 June and against Costa Rica on 10 June in World Cup warm-up games whilst based at their preparation camp in Florida.

England are in Group L and face Croatia on 17 June, Ghana on 23 June, then play against Panama on 26 June in their final group match.

Dan Burn has been talking to Sky Sports after the England World Cup squad was announced:

“I am buzzing.

“I am glad Friday is here, I have known for a couple of days and I have not been able to say anything to anyone. I got a text to say he (Thomas Tuchel) would call me between four and six, so I was sat by my phone for hours.

“When I first got called up last year it was shock, I wasn’t expecting it, but this time I have been pretty confident about it.

“It is a bit like us (Newcastle United) winning the Cup Final. I’ve dreamt of it that much in my head since I was a kid, that when it happened I didn’t know how to feel about it. It will sink in when I start reading all the messages.

“I am 34 but I am not going into it with the unknown. I have played over 500 games now and I think whenever I have had to step up in completion I’ve done well. I’m not going there worried or anything, I’m going there full of confidence and I want to help the team in however I am asked to.”

In total, that makes it eight Newcastle United players heading to the 2026 World Cup finals. The England trio plus Bruno (Brazil), Elanga (Sweden), Wissa (DR Congo) and the Germany pair Malick Thiaw and Nick Woltemade.

The full England World Cup squad announced on Friday morning:
