Manchester United will have Michael Carrick in charge next season after appointing the Englishman on a permanent basis.

The Red Devils confirmed on Friday that the former England international had been made permanent head coach, signing a contract until the end of the 2027/28 campaign.

Carrick oversaw significant improvement after taking charge of United in January, following the sacking of Ruben Amorim who had guided his side to a dismal run of results during the first half of the campaign.

In the wake of Carrick’s permanent appointment – and with the summer transfer window fast approaching – it has emerged that Man United are making progress in their pursuit of a Brazilian midfielder.

As per journalist Ben Jacobs, the Red Devils have made progress during talks with Atalanta over a possible deal to sign midfielder Atalanta.

Ederson, 26, has been in fine form for Atalanta this season, but did miss out on a place in Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti’s final 26-man squad for the World Cup this summer.

Jacobs claims that United have made some progress during negotiations with the Serie A outfit, while also discussing a potential five-year contract with the player himself.

United have identified Ederson as a possible target as they search for a potential replacement for his compatriot Casemiro, who is set to leave Old Trafford this summer.

Ederson has just over a year remaining on his current contract in Bergamo, but Jacobs suggests that talks over a possible move to Manchester have so far gone well.

Having joined Atalanta from fellow Italian side Salernitana in 2022, the midfielder has now played 180 times for his current side across all competitions.

The midfielder has featured more than 40 times so far this season.
