Roland Garros has seen some surprise breakout stars in recent years.
Last year’s tournament was a shining example of this, as wildcard Lois Boisson reached the Roland Garros semifinals.
Boisson had never played a Grand Slam main draw match before, but beat the likes of Jessica Pegula and Mirra Andreeva to reach the last-four in Paris.
The Frenchwoman will be hoping to recreate her success at Roland Garros this year, while another former semifinalist has not won a match at the clay court major since her run four years ago.

Martina Trevisan reached the semifinals of Roland Garros in 2022
Martina Trevisan had also enjoyed a successful main draw debut at Roland Garros in 2020, where she came through qualifying to reach the quarterfinals.
The Italian struggled to recreate this form and actually dropped outside the top 100 in the WTA rankings, before Trevisan was able to return in time to gain direct entry for Roland Garros in 2022.
Trevisan started to find some form on clay ahead of Roland Garros, winning her first WTA title at the Rabat Grand Prix in Morocco.
Who will win the Roland Garros Women’s Singles title?
She was able to take this into Roland Garros and reached the quarterfinals once again, with Trevisan doing so without dropping a set.
Trevisan would play her first seeded opponent in 2021 US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez, who she would beat in three sets to reach the semifinals for the first time.
Her breakthrough run at Roland Garros would eventually come to an end against Coco Gauff, who would beat Trevisan 6-3, 6-1.
Trevisan was able to reach her career-high ranking of world number 18 following her semifinal run at Roland Garros.

What happened to Martina Trevisan at Roland Garros this year?
Despite becoming a top 20 player after reaching the Roland Garros semifinals in 2022, Trevisan has not won another main draw match at the clay court major since then.
Trevisan has not even won a set in the main draw of Roland Garros, having lost in straight sets to both Elina Svitolina and Olga Danilovic, as she exited the first round in both 2023 and 2024, respectively.
| Year | Martina Trevisan’s result on Roland Garros |
| 2023 | First Round – Lost to Elina Svitolina |
| 2024 | First Round – Lost to Olga Danilovic |
| 2026 | Second Qualifying Round – Lost to Mayar Sherif |
After undergoing surgery on her foot in March 2025, Trevisan was forced to miss Roland Garros last year.
Trevisan has not won a WTA Tour main draw match since 2024, and the world number 490 was attempting to come through qualifying at Roland Garros this year after using her protected ranking.
The 32-year-old made a positive start after winning her first match against Gabriela Knutson, before Trevisan was beaten in three hours and 31 minutes by Mayar Sherif.
Who is the most shocking Grand Slam champion ever?
You never know what might happen…
Trevisan is now scheduled to return to the lower-level ITF Tour, as she is entered into qualifying for the 75k event in Zaragoza, Spain.
With her protected ranking no longer being useful next year, it is unclear as to whether Trevisan will ever play Roland Garros again, let alone win another main draw match.
