One of the biggest priorities for the Detroit Pistons this offseason will reportedly be improving the team’s ball-handling and offensive creation.

The organization hopes to reduce some of the workload currently placed on Cade Cunningham while also making the offense more versatile and difficult to defend.

“The more ball-handling you can have on the floor, the better,” president of basketball operations Trajan Langdon said.

According to Langdon, the NBA’s top teams typically feature multiple players capable of initiating offense, attacking the paint, and making decisions in half-court situations.

“I think these teams that are successful have a lot of people that can initiate offense, bringing the ball up, or actually execute in the halfcourt,” the Pistons executive explained.

He added that having several creators on the floor makes defenses much harder to prepare for.

“The more guys like that you have, the more difficult it is to guard,” Langdon said.

Ausar Thompson’s continued development as a ball-handler could become an important part of that plan, though Detroit may also explore outside additions to strengthen the roster offensively.
