Rangers No. 2 Prospect Caden Scarborough Returns to High-A Hub City

Caden Scarborough

Texas Rangers pitching prospect Caden Scarborough is heading back to the High-A Hub City rotation next week.

Here’s good news for Texas Rangers fans. Right-hander Caden Scarborough, the Rangers’ No. 2 overall prospect, has been assigned back to the High-A Hub City Spartanburgers. The 21-year-old talent is expected to re-join the High-A rotation next week.

Overcoming Offseason Adversity

Scarborough’s journey to the mound this season has been defined by incredible resilience. His 2026 campaign was delayed as he recovered from offseason surgery to remove a malignant melanoma.

Scarborough returned to live game action in the desert on May 15. He made two starts for the ACL Rangers in Arizona, logging 4.0 total innings while registering four strikeouts against just one walk and a 6.75 ERA. His fastball sat 93 – 96 mph Friday.

Having thrown an outing last night in Arizona, keeping Scarborough on a normal professional schedule lines him up perfectly to make his official 2026 Hub City debut next Friday.

The return of a healthy Scarborough is an absolute game-changer for the Spartanburgers’ pitching staff. Before his season was delayed, the righty put together a dominant 2025 minor league campaign that saw him skyrocket up organizational prospect boards.

During his time with Hickory last season, Scarborough was an absolute workhorse, showcasing elite command and swing-and-miss stuff:

Hickory (2025): 2.88 ERA, 75.0 IP, 19 BB, 95 K

That performance earned him a late-season promotion to High-A Hub City, where he proceeded to completely embarrass opposing hitters over a brief but brilliant sample size:

Hub City (2025): 0.00 ERA, 13.0 IP, 2 BB, 19 K

What’s Next for the Rangers High-A Ace

With 114 strikeouts over 88 combined innings under his belt from last summer, Scarborough has nothing left to prove regarding his pure stuff. His stint in the desert was all about checking the box on health, pitch counts, and mechanics.

Now that his medical treatment has been figured out, the real climb back to the majors resumes. It’s so good to see Caden back out on the mound where he belongs. Expect the atmosphere at the ballpark next Friday to be absolutely electric when Scarborough takes the bump.
