Blues Looking to Move Up in the Draft, Big Trade On the Table

TSN’s Darren Dreger notes that the St. Louis Blues are a team to watch heading into the 2026 NHL Entry Draft. Why? Because there’s a sense they are keen to move up, and the San Jose Sharks might be open to trading down.

Always an active team, Dreger wondered if maybe the Blues could take a crack at Ivar Stenberg or Caleb Malhotra (who the Canucks reportedly also want). Alex Steen will officially take over as the team’s general manager on July 1, and he might be keen to make a splash. St. Louis has three picks in the first round, along with No. 11 and No. 15, acquired from the Detroit Red Wings for defenseman Justin Faulk on March 6.

Dreger also noted that the Blues had something big brewing with the Anaheim Ducks at the trade deadline. Ultimately, that deal, whatever it was, never came to pass. However, the point is, they were open to moving a big piece and may be willing to again.

Jordan Kyrou trade

Jordan Kyrou is a name that comes up in trade talks, and he could be part of a package attached to a draft selection to move up to the No. 2 or No. 3 spot. Would the Sharks be open to trading out of their top spot for Kyrou and another first-round selection (either No. 11 or No. 15)?

It doesn’t sound like anything has been officially offered by the Blues for the pick, but Dreger seems to think a trade is on the table if the Sharks are open to jumping. It would simply be a matter of finding the right pieces to make it work.
