Xavier Woods called out Kenny Omega after The New Day’s WWE exit, and he didn’t exactly keep things subtle as he threatened the Cleaner.
Xavier Woods took to his Instagram Story and posted a video with Kofi Kingston after a fan approached The New Day while wearing a Kenny Omega t-shirt. Woods immediately called out the shirt and made it clear he wasn’t having it.
“We’re doing photos at GalaxyCon—somebody let him in. Take this shirt off, get this shirt out of here. He almost got punched in the face.”
Then Woods turned his attention directly to Kenny Omega and issued a warning that if he ever sees Omega, it will be “on sight,” making it clear he will go after Omega.
“’Cause Kenny Omega—Kenny, if I see you, it’s on sight! It’s on sight! That means you’re getting punched in the face!”
The timing is hard to ignore. The long-rumored dream match between The New Day and The Elite has been discussed for years, but it suddenly feels more realistic now that Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods have parted ways with WWE.
Matt Jackson recently revealed on Being The Elite that The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega actually tried to make the match happen back in 2018. According to Jackson, they even spoke directly with Triple H about the idea.
“We truly were trying to get a New Day–Young Bucks–Kenny match to happen—an Elite versus New Day match. Um, actively, like they said they were trying on their side. We were definitely talking to, you know, our bosses, even to the point in 2018 when we got on the phone with Triple H and we talked to him and said, ‘Hey, you know, we would really like to do this match.’”
Jackson later admitted that while the talks were real, he got the sense Triple H may have been more interested in signing The Elite than actually booking the crossover match.
“And I don’t know if he was necessarily interested in just doing that match. I think he was more interested in pursuing us, you know, to work for him, but we talked to him about it. So, like, we were serious about doing the match, and we thought we’d probably be able to do it, and unfortunately we never did.”
Kofi Kingston also spoke about wanting to face The Young Bucks back in early 2024, saying the match had long been one of The New Day’s dream scenarios.
“I mean I’m gonna give a copout answer here. There’s just so many possibilities, you know we’ve always wanted to have matches with The Young Bucks. Yeah, we’ve said that before. We say it all the day.”
Kofi even referenced WWE previously opening the forbidden door with Mickie James, making it clear he was willing to peek through that door himself.
“They opened the door, they let Mickie James come here from TNA last year, not me. I can mention and talk about the kicking the forbidden door open, you didn’t shut it. So Imma come and peek through and see.”
Now Xavier Woods is adding more fuel to the fire by directly calling out the Best Bout Machine in public. Whether it was a joke, a tease, or the beginning of something bigger, fans are already going to connect the dots.
With The New Day recently parting ways with WWE and AEW figures previously excited about the possibility of the match, the long-awaited Elite vs. New Day match feels closer than it ever has. Woods may have been playing around at GalaxyCon, but the message to Kenny Omega was loud and clear.
