Welcome to another edition of 6-Banner Sunday, a joint production between The Assembly Call and Inside the Hall, where we highlight the five most essential IU sports stories of the past week. 6-Banner Sunday is written by Ari Shifron.
IU basketball is reportedly in talks to join a premier non-conference event in the 2027-28 season. It was reported this week that the Hoosiers could be part of the Diamond Cup, which will feature many of the top teams in college basketball.
Also, Inside the Hall started a series looking at next season’s roster; two of IU’s freshmen are ranked in the final RSCI top 100, and a special event celebrating IU Athletics took place in Carmel earlier this month. As usual, we will conclude with a look at the weekly shows and the rest of the Hoosier sports in action, which were led by volleyball announcing a foreign tour.
Here is what is in this week’s edition:
• IU reportedly in talks to join “Diamond Cup” in 2027
• Inside the Hall’s transfer portal player spotlight series
• Two of IU’s class of 2026 signees are in the top 100 of the final RSCI rankings
• Darian DeVries speaks at the Vision and Victory event in Carmel
• Podcast on the Brink and Back Home Network shows
• Hoosier Roundup

As the 2026-2027 schedule has started to take shape, an event further down the road for 2027-2028 was reported as a possibility. This preseason tournament would be called the Diamond Cup.
This Diamond Cup could feature some of the top teams in college basketball, including Arizona, Gonzaga, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, North Carolina, and UConn, along with IU. More details could come later this summer.
Banner #2 – Inside the Hall’s transfer portal player spotlight series
Inside the Hall started a series looking at the incoming transfer players in detail.
This week saw Jaeden Mustaf, Darren Harris, Markus Burton, Samet Yigitoglu, and Aiden Sherrell examined.
Banner #3 – Two of IU’s class of 2026 signees are in the top 100 of the final RSCI rankings
The Hoosiers have three freshmen coming in for the 2026-2027 season. How much this trio of newcomers can contribute remains to be seen.
Two of them are projected relatively highly by the RSCI (Recruiting Services Consensus Index), though. Vaughn Karvala finished at No. 57 nationally, while the more recently signed Trevor Manhertz is No. 72. Prince-Alexander Moody did not make the final top-100 ranking.
Banner #4 – Darian DeVries speaks at the Vision and Victory event in Carmel
IU held an event in Carmel recently at the Allied Solutions Center for the Performing Arts. The gathering titled “Victory and Vision” sold out all 1,600 seats in the Payne & Mencias Palladium.
Darian DeVries was among the speakers and discussed on a variety of topics.
Banner #5 – Podcast on the Brink and Back Home Network shows
Inside the Hall’s Podcast on the Brink had a new episode this week. On it, CrimsonCast’s Galen Clavio discussed IU’s busy spring in basketball.
The Back Home Network has many shows. As a result, it was on air several times this week with programming.
