Just 0.0233s separated the first and second-place finishers in the 110th running of the Indianapolis 500. It now stands as the closest finish in the entire history of the Indy 500.
The race turned into a one-lap shootout, with David Malukas taking the lead immediately. Rosenqvist then battled side-by-side with teammate Marcus Armstrong for second, and it appeared that the race was over with the Penske car gapping them both.
However, they surged at the back-end of the lap and Rosenqvist found a little clean air around the outside. As they drag-raced to the line, he flicked to the outside of Malukas, beating him by a nose.
This is now the second win for Meyer Shank Racing, earning their first Indy 500 win with Helio Castroneves in 2021.
The 34-year-old Swede was making his eighth start in the Indy 500, and now, he will forever be part of its legend.
24 of 33 starters reached the checkered flag. There was also a record number of lead, with a total of 70 throughout the epic 200-lap battle.
