MJF isn’t just brushing off talk about WWE or Hollywood. He’s saying AEW would be in serious trouble without him.
While speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, MJF was asked what would happen to AEW if he moved on full-time to Hollywood or jumped to WWE. MJF didn’t hesitate, claiming the company would fall apart quickly without him: “It dies. It dies probably a fast — not even a slow and painful death.”
The AEW World Champion then made it clear that he still loves AEW and the people who work there, but he also believes the company depends on him more than anyone else. He also added that he’s the most-important piece of the puzzle.
“And that’s OK, you know. I love AEW, I love everybody that works there, but, like I said, I can’t be in the position I’m in without having the pass the ball, but if they couldn’t pass the ball back to me? Jesus Christ. God bless ’em. I’m the most-important piece of the puzzle.”
The comments come after MJF recently addressed WWE speculation during an appearance on Klein Ally Show. He acknowledged that WWE fans want to see him make the jump, but framed that interest around his star power.
“As far as people wanting me to go to WWE—WWE fans want me to go to WWE because they know that I’m the biggest thing in wrestling, and they’re desperate to have me on their programming.”
Road Dogg also previously confirmed that WWE had interest in MJF multiple times, which only kept the conversation alive. Still, MJF’s latest comments make it clear that he views himself as central to AEW’s identity and future.
Whether he is teasing, working, or simply saying what he believes, MJF knows exactly how to keep his name at the center of the AEW vs. WWE conversation. His message was simple: AEW can pass the ball around, but it still needs to come back to him.
Do you agree with MJF that AEW would struggle badly without him, or is he overselling his importance? Please share your thoughts and feedback in the comments.
