The New York Giants will almost look like a brand new team in 2026. New York made several huge improvements during the offseason, headlined by hiring John Harbaugh at head coach. Now the Giants are looking into one veteran player who could be the final piece of their fierce defensive line.
The Giants worked out veteran defensive tackle Eddie Goldman on Tuesday, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Goldman played in 13 games and only had six starts during the 2025 season for the Commanders. He will have the opportunity to compete for a roster spot with the Giants during OTAs.
New York suddenly has a huge need at defensive tackle after trading away Dexter Lawrence before the 2026 NFL Draft. That move firmly put the Giants in the market for multiple nose tackles.
Goldman is far from the only player who could help fill the void left by Lawrence. The Giants already brought in D.J. Reader and veteran Shelby Harris shortly after the draft. Goldman will join Reader, Harris, veteran Leki Fotu, and rookie bobby Jamison-Travis in a competition to replace Lawrence’s snaps.
Goldman is a somewhat surprising player for New York to kick the tires on. The longtime Bears defender took a big step back following the 2019 season. Goldman was one of multiple players to opt out of the 2020 season because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Then Goldman retired from the NFL in 2022 shortly after signing with the Falcons. He eventually returned to the league and played the entire 2024 season for the Falcons.
Goldman is still just 32 years old and could still have some good football left in him.
It will be fascinating to see if New York actually ends up signing Goldman to a contract, even if he doesn’t make the final roster this fall.
