Day Three at Roland Garros saw multiple seeded players falling, but World No. 1 Jannik Sinner looked imperious in his opening match as he kept up his unbeaten clay winning streak.
However, the headlines belonged to big upsets; most notably, Daniil Medvedev’s latest disappointing first-round exit to Adam Walton.
Bublik, Griekspoor, Moutet and Norrie were also first-round victims with the latter meaning there are zero Brits in Round 2.
Here’s a look at the key matches from Day Three.

Key Matches

Adam Walton def. Daniil Medvedev 6-2 1-6 6-1 1-6 6-4
Australian Adam Walton pulled off the biggest upset of the tournament so far, defeating No. 6 seed Daniil Medvedev in a topsy-turvy five-setter on Court Suzanne Lenglen.
Walton stormed through the first and third sets but dropped the second and fourth heavily, before rallying from 2-4 down in the decider to win the last four games and seal the victory in over three hours.
This was Walton’s second career win over Medvedev and highlighted the Russian’s continued struggles at Roland Garros, where he has now lost in the first round seven times in 10 appearances.
Medvedev admitted he may need to change his pre-Paris preparation next year, but I wasn’t expecting a loss here. Walton has been playing Challengers on hard court in recent weeks. Poor.
Moïse Kouamé def. Marin Cilic 7-6(4) 6-2 6-1
17-year-old French wild card Moïse Kouamé produced a Roland Garros debut to remember, defeating former World No. 3 and 2022 semi-finalist Marin Cilic in straight sets.
The Paris-born teenager stayed ice-cool under the pressure of a passionate home crowd, saving early break points and dominating after taking the first-set tie-break.
He will face Adolfo Daniel Vallejo next and has already jumped nearly 70 ranking spots.
Jan-Lennard Struff def. Alexander Bublik 7-5 6-7(6) 6-4 7-5
Jan-Lennard Struff caused a major upset by eliminating No. 9 seed Alexander Bublik in four hard-fought sets.
The experienced German used his heavy ball-striking and variety effectively on clay to outlast the unpredictable Kazakh.
Vit Kopriva def. Corentin Moutet 6-3 5-7 6-4 3-6 6-3
Czech qualifier Vit Kopriva delivered another seeded upset, battling past No. 30 seed and home favourite Corentin Moutet in a gruelling five-setter.
Kopriva showed excellent resilience and consistency to overcome the partisan crowd and Moutet’s tricky lefty game.
Stefanos Tsitsipas def. Alexandre Muller 6-2 3-0 ret.
2021 finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas advanced comfortably when local player Alexandre Muller retired early in the second set.
Tsitsipas looked sharp in the opening set and will now prepare for a tougher second-round test against Matteo Arnaldi, who upset Tallon Griekspoor.
Learner Tien def. Cristian Garin 6-0 2-6 6-0 6-2
18th seed Learner Tien continued his strong clay form, securing his first Roland Garros main-draw win with a dominant performance against Cristian Garin.
Fresh off his maiden ATP title in Geneva, the young American blasted 39 winners and now boasts a five-match winning streak. He faces qualifier Facundo Diaz Acosta next.
Jannik Sinner def. Clément Tabur 6-1 6-3 6-4
World No. 1 Jannik Sinner launched his 2026 Roland Garros campaign in expected ruthless fashion, dispatching French wild card Clément Tabur in straight sets on Court Philippe-Chatrier.
Sinner was far too good, firing 40 winners and not facing a single break point. The Italian looked sharp from the baseline, and the result was never in doubt.
Felix Auger-Aliassime def. Daniel Altmaier 4-6 6-4 4-6 6-1 7-6(10-7)
No. 4 seed Felix Auger-Aliassime survived a marathon battle, outlasting Daniel Altmaier in five sets after more than 4 hours and 16 minutes, concluding with a super tie-break.
The Canadian was pushed to the limit by the dangerous German but showed resilience, recovering from 1-4 down in the fifth.
