Oilers, Canadiens & Maple Leafs 1st Pick?

This edition (May 27, 2026) of NHL Trade Talk Recap includes three quick recaps. Today, hockey served up trade drama, playoff grind, and draft fireworks. The Panthers are juggling ex-Oilers’ goalie options if Bobrovsky walks. The Hurricanes have the Canadiens on the ropes by hunting Lane Hutson. And Ivar Stenberg’s World Championship showing is making the Maple Leafs’ No. 1 pick way more interesting than expected.

Panthers Eyeing Oilers’ Goalies as Bobrovsky’s Pricey Future Looms

Florida’s reportedly interested in Stuart Skinner and Connor Ingram if Sergei Bobrovsky walks. Both guys could be cheap, solid options compared to whatever long-term, big-money deal Bobrovsky might want. Skinner could thrive behind a stronger Panthers D, and Ingram’s shown he can handle heavy workloads before.

For Edmonton, this all matters because they’ve got cap headaches with Tristan Jarry and a Campbell buyout. Paying big for Bobrovsky on top of that would be rough. A swap where Florida grabs a cheaper stopgap and the Oilers chase bigger names feels tempting on paper, but the money math might make it messy.

The Hurricanes See Lane Hutson as the Canadiens’ Player to Stop

Carolina tightened up after Game 1, and now Montreal’s scrambling. The Canes are clogging lanes, blocking shots, and turning every mistake into a chance. They’ve zeroed in on Lane Hutson, making his minutes miserable and forcing the Habs into short, ugly breakouts.

Martin St. Louis needs tweaks: read the game more quickly, change breakout looks, get pucks to the net, and stop letting Carolina set the pace. If Montreal does that, this series stays alive. If not, it could get ugly fast.

Stenberg’s World Championship Flex: Is He Stealing McKenna’s Spotlight?

Most Maple Leafs fans expect Gavin McKenna at No. 1, but Ivar Stenberg’s been making a loud case at the Worlds. That slick goal vs. Slovakia was the knockout punch in a stellar tourney. With Mats Sundin in the stands and scouts watching, Stenberg’s shown he’s ready to force some serious draft drama.

McKenna’s still the favourite. He’s likely the bigger offensive producer. But Stenberg’s size, two-way game, and pro-level play this week have made GM John Chayka’s choice a lot trickier. Either way, whoever picks him won’t be complaining.
