WWE Considered Santino Marella For Clash In Italy Cameo

WWE Clash In Italy already looks to create headlines as a major international event, and a new report says Santino Marella was at least discussed for a special appearance on the show.

WrestleVotes is reporting that there was a pitch within WWE creative to use Santino at Clash In Italy, although it is not clear how far the idea went or whether the company seriously moved forward with it.

The pitch would make sense given Santino’s long history with WWE and his strong ties to Italy. While he was born in Canada, his on-screen character was famously billed from Italy, and his WWE debut in Milan is still remembered as one of the standout moments of the Ruthless Aggression Era. That night, he was pulled from the crowd as a “fan,” accepted Vince McMahon’s open challenge, and defeated Umaga to win the Intercontinental Championship in his very first match. The moment launched Santino into years of work as one of WWE’s most popular comedy acts.

Today, Marella is part of TNA Wrestling, where he appears on-screen as the Director of Authority. WWE and TNA have quietly improved their relationship over the last year, allowing talent to cross over for special appearances and opening the door for ideas like this. With Clash In Italy taking place in Turin this weekend and featuring top names such as Cody Rhodes, GUNTHER, Roman Reigns, Rhea Ripley, Jade Cargill, Brock Lesnar, and Oba Femi, a Santino cameo would certainly get a big reaction from the local crowd if it ever happens.
