R-Truth Admits He Nearly Quit WWE Before Hall Of Famer Changed His Mind

R-Truth has revealed that one of the most important moments of his wrestling career happened when he was ready to walk away from the business entirely.

Speaking on Six Feet Under with The Undertaker, the WWE veteran reflected on a difficult period in developmental and the Hall of Famer who convinced him to stay the course.

The story offers a look back at a turning point that could have dramatically changed WWE history.

At the time, R-Truth was struggling both professionally and personally, and he believed his wrestling journey was coming to an end.

How Road Dogg helped change R-Truth’s career

During the conversation, R-Truth explained that his developmental contract was nearing its end while he was training in Memphis. Frustrated by a lack of progress and dealing with issues at home, he had already started preparing to leave wrestling behind.

“My contract was coming up. I hadn’t already gave up because I was having issues at home and my mind wasn’t there in Memphis and developmental,” R-Truth said. “I was like I’m ready to quit man. I’m not made for wrestling.”

Everything changed when WWE Hall of Famer Road Dogg crossed paths with him. According to R-Truth, Road Dogg saw something in him that he couldn’t see in himself at the time.

“He believed in me and said, ‘Hey man, you got what it takes. You got to hold on. Can you give me two months? I’ll have you out of here,’” R-Truth recalled.

The veteran star said the encouragement meant more than any contract or opportunity.

“Just to have somebody believe in you means a lot. It didn’t take a bunch of people. He believed in me,” he said. “People helping people is a powerful thing.”

R-Truth has previously shared a similar story during an interview with Chris Van Vliet, explaining that he had intended to leave the business after what he believed would be his final match. Instead, Road Dogg’s support led to his television debut as K-Kwik and the start of a career that has spanned decades.

Sometimes the biggest comeback doesn’t happen inside the ring. For R-Truth, it started when someone refused to let him throw in the towel before the bell had truly rung.
