The Green Bay Packers brought in veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor to bolster the depth chart and support Jordan Love in the quarterback room.
Head coach Matt LaFleur has already responded positively to Taylor’s presence, telling reporters on Thursday that he values the veteran’s mindset and the energy he brings to the team.
“Tyrod, he’s been awesome, man. He’s really come into the room and is absorbing everything,” the Packers head coach told the media.

“He does have a little familiarity with our system. Obviously he’s played a long time in this league. But it’s good that he was with [Nathaniel] Hackett in New York. So everything isn’t foreign.”
Hackett previously worked as an offensive coordinator under LaFleur during the latter stages of Aaron Rodgers’ tenure with the Packers. Heading into 2026, Hackett is now set to lead the offense for the Arizona Cardinals. Meanwhile, Tyrod Taylor picked up elements of Hackett’s system during his short stint with the New York Jets from 2024 to 2025.

Taylor’s deal during NFL free agency helped boost the Packers’s ranking in ESPN’s early offseason evaluations. The veteran quarterback joins Green Bay after the departure of Malik Willis, who signed with the Miami Dolphins. To make room on the roster, the Packers also moved on from Desmond Ridder as part of their quarterback room reshuffling.
The 36-year-old quarterback spent his most recent two NFL seasons with the Jets, where he went 1-3 as a starter.
Over his 15-year career, he holds a 29-31-1 record as a starter and now joins only his second NFC team after previously playing for the New York Giants during the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
LaFleur now benefits from having a former Pro Bowl quarterback behind his starter, giving him a reliable veteran presence who has familiarity with the offensive system.
