The ATP French Open fourth-round match on May 31 continues with two blockbuster clashes featuring players in excellent form, battling for a place in the quarterfinals. Jakub Mensik looks to continue his breakthrough run after impressive wins over de Minaur and Navone, while Andrey Rublev brings valuable clay-court experience into the matchup. Later in the evening, Casper Ruud faces rising Brazilian star Joao Fonseca, who stunned Novak Djokovic in the previous round after another remarkable five-set comeback.
ATP French Open 1/8-Finals
Mensik – Rublev: 31.05.2026 16:00 CEST
H2H: 2-0
Jakub Mensik has won four of his last five matches. This week at the French Open, the Czech demolished Droguet in the opening match in straight sets. In the second round, Mensik outlasted Navone in five tight sets after playing for almost five hours. He converted the seventh match point. In the third round, Mensik upset de Minaur in four sets. After losing the opening set 0-6, the Czech stepped up his level and demolished the Australian.
Andrey Rublev has won four of his last five matches. He was the quarterfinalist here twice. Last season, the Russian lost to Sinner in the fourth round. This week, Rublev defeated Buse and Ugo Carabelli, both in four sets, in the opening rounds. In the third round, the Russian defeated Borges in three tight sets. He trailed 1-3 in the second set, but turned it around.
Best Bet to Make
According to the bookies, this will be a 50-50 matchup, but we disagree. Rublev is a better clay-court player than Mensik and has more experience at the French Open. We expect him to control the rallies and win.
That being said, Rublev winning is a value bet.

Ruud – Fonseca: 31.05.2026 20:15 CEST
H2H: first meeting
Casper Ruud has won four of his last five matches. This week in Paris, the Norwegian defeated Safiullin in the opening match in five sets. In the second round, Ruud won against Medjedovic in straight sets. He offered and saved seven breakpoints. His toughest challenge happened in the third round against Paul. After playing for almost five hours, Ruud turned the match around after trailing 0-2. He was great under pressure, saving 12 out of 14 breakpoints.
Joao Fonseca has won three of his last five matches. This week at the French Open, Fonseca defeated Pavlovic in the opening match in straight sets. He saved one set point in the opening set. In the second round against Prizmic after trailing 0-2, Fonseca stepped up his level and turned the match around, winning in five sets. In the third round, he once again made a comeback after being 0-2 down. This time, Fonseca upset Djokovic in five tight sets. Last season in Paris, the Brazilian lost to Draper in the third round in straight sets.
Best Bet to Make
According to the bookies, Ruud is the slight favourite in this matchup, and we agree. Fonseca had two consecutive five-setters. Ruud is one of the biggest favourites to win the title. Considering his experience, especially at the French Open, we expect him to win.
That being said, Ruud winning is a value bet.
