Former WWE star Rico Constantino is opening up about a health battle that completely changed his life.
During an appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, the former WWE Tag Team Champion revealed that blood clots forced him to medically retire from his career as a police officer. Rico explained that doctors found three blood clots in his femoral artery while he was working in law enforcement. Although he tried to continue working, being placed on blood thinners eventually became an issue.
“When I was an officer, 2014-2015, I caught blood clots. I tried to overcome them, they put me on blood thinners, and when it came time for the state to make a decision, I was a liability because I was on blood thinners and so I was forced to medically retire.”
After leaving the force, Rico worked to get his health back on track. He eventually found a routine that allowed him to start training again and return to a job he loved. Rico later became an investigator for an insurance company, allowing him to stay involved in detective work without serving as a police officer.
“I got back into what I really love — investigations, detective work — but I couldn’t be an officer, so I became an investigator for a commercial insurance company called Bell United.”
Unfortunately, Rico’s health issues resurfaced last year after a long flight.
He revealed that another blood clot developed in his femoral artery, along with a second clot in his popliteal artery, which he described as more dangerous. The good news is that a new medication appears to be helping.
“I got one more in my femoral, but the other one, which is more dangerous, is I got one in my popliteal artery, which is harder to get rid of.”
“Since then I’ve been on a new blood thinner, and the pain behind the leg’s gone away.”
Rico’s WWE career ended years ago, but he’s continued facing battles outside the ring. His latest comments reveal just how serious his health issues have been and how they ultimately forced him to walk away from a career in law enforcement.
