Barn Burner: Darren Dreger says it’s unlikely the Toronto Maple Leafs are going to move the first overall pick, but having some fun and spitballing, he throughs out the idea of a massive deal involving the St. Louis Blues.

Ryan Pinder: “Uh, article on Daily Face Off today. There’s been, uh, 11 times since ’05 a top 10 pick’s been moved. So that’s not a lot. And only one of those has been a top five. So I understand why you’re chortling. Of course, people are listening. It’s your job as a GM to listen to people make offers about the assets you have. The chances of a top five pick actually moving, once in the last 21 years.”
Dreger: “I guess, but you know, so here’s why I’m open to the possibility and the speculation on this, because you do have a small window with Auston Matthews. You know, he’s got two years on his contract, but let’s be honest, we’re looking at next year. That’s what we’re looking at.
And, and you know, in his exit interviews, he, there was nothing threatening about it. There was no, ‘I’m not coming back, I’m not playing if this doesn’t happen or that doesn’t happen.’ But they strongly, the leaders, Nylander, Tavares, etc. indicated that, okay, well, there’s some pieces that we sure like to bring in here to make us more competitive, right.
A defenseman, preferably a right shot, and you know, some help up front, a winger, maybe a centerman.

So, okay, just play with me here. If, if we’re talking about first overall, is there a way of packaging that first pick overall, and maybe end up with Robbie Thomas and Colton Parayko as part of whatever the return is coming back? And I don’t know, I mean, is a first, probably isn’t enough for both those guys, is it? I mean, maybe you’ve got…”
Pinder: “If it’s first overall, I don’t know.”
Dreger: “Yeah. Hey, why don’t we have some fun and throw (Jordan) Binnington into the equation, and Toronto throws one of the goalies, I mean, their American League guys are doing well (Dennis Hildeby and Artur Akhtyamov).
I mean, but that’s the kind of stuff that’s actually fun to speculate on, but I’m still on the side of it’s probably not going to happen.”
