The Greenwich Giants will host the the UK’s only official MLB PLAY BALL Weekend activation on Saturday, June 6, at the University of Greenwich Avery Hill campus in Eltham, welcoming children, families and first-time players from across Southeast London for a free day of baseball activities. The Greater London PLAY BALL event forms part of a worldwide programme taking place simultaneously across dozens of countries between 5-7 June.
PLAY BALL Weekend is an annual initiative led by Major League Baseball to grow participation in baseball and softball worldwide. Open to all ages and abilities, the event is designed to introduce new participants to baseball in a fun, inclusive and accessible environment. The first 100 children to attend will receive a free t-shirt and gift bag.
Event Programme
- 9:45–10:45 am — Session for children aged 4–7 (girls & boys)
- 11:00 am–1:00 pm — Session for children aged 8–14 (girls & boys)
- 1:30–3:00 pm — Open session, all ages, including adults
- After the event, there will be an Adult baseball game for anyone aged 14+ to give it a go, no experience needed.

The Greenwich Giants are a community baseball club based in Southeast London, founded in 2024 and affiliated with the British Baseball Federation. The club offers sessions for children aged 4–12, youth players, women & girls, and mixed adults, with a focus on inclusive, skills-based, family-friendly sport.
The Greenwich event joins official MLB PLAY BALL activations in Japan, India, China, Australia, Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Egypt, Germany, Austria [link], Singapore, Hong Kong, and the Philippines — placing Southeast London at the centre of a worldwide celebration of baseball participation and community sport.
