Ahead of this month’s Night of Champions PLE, WWE has revealed the full brackets for the King and Queen of the Ring tournaments, but some fans aren’t happy with how it’s currently shaping up.
During the Clash in Italy PLE, WWE announced that the King and Queen of the Ring tournaments will begin during Monday night’s RAW. The winners are set to be crowned at Night of Champions in Saudi Arabia on Saturday, June 27.
However, the brackets are already proving a little controversial. While it’s a star-studded effort on both the men’s and women’s tournaments, one of the biggest talking points is what current Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan is doing among the competitors.
In recent years, the new King and Queen of the Ring challenge for the world title of their choosing, so her presence makes little sense. Women’s Intercontinental Champion Sol Ruca is in the tournament, but for some reason, Women’s United States Champion Tiffany Stratton is not.
On the men’s side, RAW Superstar Finn Balor has been assigned to SmackDown, while Oba Femi is also set to compete. Unless Brock Lesnar costs him a match somewhere along the line, it seems this is what’s next for him after losing to The Beast at Clash in Italy.
While Lesnar vs. Femi III seems likely for August’s SummerSlam, if the plan is still for the winner of these tournaments to go after a world title, The Ruler will need to do so at Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 18 in New York’s Madison Square Garden.
Clash in Italy has drawn mixed reviews from fans. Whether it was World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns putting down Jacob Fatu (and effectively cutting off his main event run at the knees) or the odd finish to Cody Rhodes’ Undisputed WWE Championship defence against Gunther, the PLE has fans talking…and not necessarily for the right reasons.
Night of Champions has the potential to be a strong show, while the return of the King and Queen of the Ring is always fun.
