On a warm day in Loughborough a young team of Scottish throwers made their mark at the Pickering Memorial Throws International.
The event is organised by England Athletics and named after the famous Pickering family. Via our International Handbook, this was Throws Pathway International opportunity.
Jacob McKinlay, who represented GB and NI Juniors at the Loughborough International, pulled on a Scotland vest for the first time and set an incredible personal best of 57.80m (just 20cm shy of the World U20 Standard of 58.00m) furthering his mark of 56.63m from LIA.
This throw gained him the Male Performance of the Day with his rewards including £500 from the Ron Pickering Foundation.
Niamh Pegrum, another debutant, threw an excellent two personal bests: Discus 40.30m (first time over the 40m line) and 13.74m in the Shot (previous best 13.55m)
Rhian Mitchell performed well across Discus and Shot while Amy Kennedy also fresh of GB duties in Halle threw 14.57m in the Women’s Shot.
Skye Marshall competed in the Shot and Javelin, throwing an impressive 44.13m (second furthest throw ever) and 12.53m in the shot.
Lucy Kernahan threw 35.58m a Season Best in the Discus. Sophie Robertson placed fourth in the Women’s Hammer with her 57.04m.
Well done to these young athletes and to their families, coaches and clubs.
With thanks to Sam O’Kane
