A photo of Nabers talking with police officers circulated on social media Tuesday night, which sparked speculation that he may have been in legal trouble. However, no arrest was made, and NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo later provided a quick clarification on what actually happened.
“Regarding Giants WR Malik Nabers and what’s circulating on social media, multiple sources say he was stopped in Paramus by police after a report of road rage by someone driving a similar vehicle. They searched Nabers’ car and spoke to him. No weapon, no arrest, no citation, and he was sent on his way,” Garafolo tweeted.

Additional details about the incident came shortly after from ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, who explained why Nabers was not penalized.
“My understanding through sources is that an individual was reported to have brandished a gun in a similar car. It was determined to be a case of mistaken identity, and Nabers was allowed to leave,” Raanan tweeted.

The news came as a relief for Giants fans, as Nabers is already dealing with injury concerns. He recently underwent a procedure on his injured knee to remove scar tissue that was causing stiffness, according to Dan Duggan of The Athletic.
Nabers’ recovery timeline is still uncertain heading into the 2026 NFL season. Raanan initially reported that the Giants remain hopeful Nabers could be ready for Week 1, while New York Post reporter Ryan Dunleavy recently reported he may begin the year on the physically unable to perform list. If that ultimately happens, he would be required to miss at least the first four regular-season games under NFL rules.
However, there was a small positive sign for Giants fans when Nabers took part in Brian Burns’ celebrity softball event on Saturday and was even seen moving around during dodgeball activities. The footage from the event was encouraging, as even light movement, like jogging bases, is seen as a step forward following the serious knee issue.
Nabers finished last season with a 77.5 score in the PFSN WR Impact, ranking No. 33 in the nation.
