Pittsburgh Penguins – Scoring Forwards to Look at, and Trade Value of Some Penguins

Four scoring forwards the Pittsburgh Penguins could look at

Dan Kingerski of Pittsburgh Hockey Now: A look at some potential trade targets for the Pittsburgh Penguins if they’re looking to add a scoring forward.

Jason Robertson – Dallas Stars – An RFA. Might cost Rickard Rakell, Rutger McGroarty and a first-round pick. They may not like Rakell’s age at 33, or the uncertainty of McGroarty. They may ask for Bill Zonnon or Sergei Murashov. Maybe Rakell, Will Horcoff and a first. Lots of teams would be interested in the bidding could get high.

Jordan Kyrou – St. Louis Blues – Saw his goal total drop to 18 this past year after three straight 30-goal seasons.

Andrei Svechnikov – Carolina Hurricanes – Three years left on his contract at $7.75 million. Had a career high 31 goals this past season.

Brock Boeser – Vancouver Canucks – Would cost less to acquire than the others. The 29-year-old has six years left at $7.25 million. Scored 40 goals three years ago, but only down to 25 and 22 the past two.

2026 Stanley Cup Final Schedule and Results

The trade value of Pittsburgh Penguins Rickard Rakell and a few others

Dan Kingerski of Pittsburgh Hockey Now: As the Pittsburgh Penguins continue their rebuild, they’ll listen to calls on veteran players like Rickard Rakell. At the trade deadline, GM Kyle Dubas said that offers weren’t good enough for him to move Rakell or Bryan Rust. Dubas said Rust’s ask was ‘sky high.’ They likely aren’t moving Rust unless someone is willing to overpay for him. Rakell may not be on the same path as that.

What is Rakell’s trade value? Elias Lindholm and Bo Horvat are close comps, but may be just above Rakell’s value. The San Jose Sharks trading of Mikael Granlund, along with Cody Ceci, for a first and third-round pick could be a good comp.

Rakell has two years left, so may Dubas could land a first-round pick, a depth player, and a prospect for him.

Excluding Erik Karlsson, any other veteran Penguins player may not hold much value. Kris Letang has two years left at $6.1 million on his 35+ contract and struggled last season.

The Boston Bruins and Nashville Predators are searching for defensemen

They may want to see what defenseman Sam Girard can do with a little more time with the Penguins. He might warrant an extension. Forward Justin Brazeau has a year left, and ended up being a healthy scratch in the playoffs. Forward Tommy Novak struggled at times and his value may be less than a second-round pick, so may not be worth moving.

Defenseman Parker Wotherspoon had a breakout season at 28 years old and may have more value for the Penguins. At a $1 million, there is more incentive to keep him.
