‘An Absolute Mess’ — NFL World Reacts to 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk’s Arrest Warrant Amid Uncertain Future

The red flags continue to pile up for San Francisco 49ers receiver Brandon Aiyuk. Now, it seems like we may never see Aiyuk in the NFL again.

After previously ghosting the 49ers and being described as “simply untradeable” by NFL executives, the receiver is now in legal trouble as a warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Brandon Aiyuk’s Arrest Warrant Stuns NFL World

Aiyuk had previously posted a video on social media that showed him driving past Levi’s Stadium going almost 100 mph, which is why a warrant was issued for his arrest.

It has been a turbulent last couple of years for the former Arizona State receiver. Aiyuk was drafted in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft by San Francisco and has played his entire career in the Bay Area.

After strong rookie and sophomore years in the league, Aiyuk broke out in 2022 and 2023, recording 78 receptions for 1,015 yards and 8 touchdowns in 2022 and 75 receptions for 1,342 yards and 7 touchdowns in 2023.

However, it all went downhill from there.

After back-to-back impressive seasons, Aiyuk held out in 2024 for a more lucrative contract and then suffered a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee. He only played 7 games in 2024, catching just 25 passes for 374 yards and 0 touchdowns.

Aiyuk didn’t play in 2025 as he continued to recover from his injury, but then he reportedly stopped communicating with the 49ers and showing up at the facility. This caused the team to void the receiver’s guaranteed money for the 2026 season, and general manager John Lynch said it’s “it’s safe to say that he’s played his last snap with the Niners.”

After news of Aiyuk’s arrest warrant surfaced, the NFL world had plenty of thoughts.

“How close are we to Brandon Aiyuk just never playing football again and where would that rank on the most bizarre career turns in NFL history?” Locked on Packers host Peter Bukowski wrote on X.

“Aiyuk is gonna essentially be forced into retirement at this point (if he hasn’t already),” one influencer wrote.

49ers on SI publisher Grant Cohn posted a video reacting to Aiyuk’s arrest warrant, calling his actions “ridiculous” and even went as far as to compare him to Antonio Brown given his recent antics.

“I suppose now he needs to go turn himself in. And that’s the question: Will he actually show up? He won’t show up for the 49ers and his millions and millions of dollars but will he show up to pay his speeding ticket?” Cohn said. “And if he doesn’t, will he have to go to jail? Just ridiculous. I mean, it’s bad enough to drive past your former place of employment really fast for no apparent reason, but to film it yourself doing it and to post it on your YouTube channel and to have it blow up in your face and potentially get you in trouble is just … it’s really getting hard to defend Brandon Aiyuk at this point, man.

“It doesn’t seem like he’s a guy who has a plan or is acting rationally. He’s making Antonio Brown seem rational and mature.”

Last Men Standing podcast host Tony Farmer also chimed in.

“There’s a warrant out for Brandon Aiyuk’s arrest for the speeding video according to NY post!” Farmer wrote on X. “What are past examples of athletes or celebrities speeding on video and how often have they been held accountable? Do the 49ers have a friend in the Santa Clara DA’s offices?”

“Unfortunately Brandon Aiyuk is an absolute mess. Big time bullet dodged,” Savage Boston wrote on X since New England had been linked to Aiyuk in the past before they traded for A.J. Brown. “Would’ve set back the Patriots significantly.”

At this point, all you can do is wait and see how it all plays out. Aiyuk had a fantastic start to his NFL career, but his actions recently may ultimately end his career at just 28 years old.
